A needed holiday in Bulgaria

The first and last time I was in Bulgaria was a couple of years ago, in 2017, alone while riding all over the Balkans with my BMW R1200GS Adventure. That broke down a lot on that trip by the way. I remember that I left Bulgaria then with a positive feeling thinking I would be back one day. Fast forward 5 years and here we are! Since I already went to Sofia and Plovdiv among other places, we decided to skip these cities and go through the mountains in direction of the Black Sea, for a much needed and wanted holiday at the beach. After all, we’ve been travelling for the last 3 months and I just need a couple of days of relaxing and doing nothing. Preferably at a beach with a nice spot to park the van.

Halfway the country there is a remarkable communist monument on the top of a mountain that we just had to have to see. To say it is remarkable, is an understatement, it is just… impressive.. special… unique… Judge for yourself:

We stayed a couple of nights as the weather turned bad with a lot of rain and fog, but I can really say that this place is “magical” if you can just stay there to sleep and look at the surroundings at night.

It is also a good place to have a hike, so we did and those views… are just great!

After that it was time to get that well needed relaxation time, and oh boy, did we found some pretty amazing beaches and places all along the Bulgarian coast! In the end we spent almost 3 weeks going from beach to beach, camping literally on the beach (for free!) and just having a great time. If you don’t know where you want to spend your next holiday, we can strongly suggest the Bulgarian coast! It is a lot cheaper than anywhere else we’ve been in Europe and a lot of beaches are still wild and free for anyone to camp on.

But after all this relaxation and getting a tan all over, it is time to continue the journey east… Turkey here we come!
